About the Founder
Darren Skolnik

Darren Skolnik founded {SET} Math Prep in response to his students' and their parents' consistent satisfaction with his process and results. He began tutoring after he achieved three consecutive perfect 800 scores on the SAT math section. He has since been helping students nationwide improve their mathematic test scores dramatically, including some who have achieved perfect and near-perfect scores. In addition to college test preparation, Darren tutors mathematics for students at all grade levels and for competition math.
In addition to his pursuit of mathematical excellence, Darren has traveled worldwide, competing for the US National Speed Climbing Team since 2017. Some of his accomplishments include a gold medal at the Pan-American Championships in Ibarra, Ecuador and a Silver medal at the World Championships in Innsbruck, Austria. He finds that many of the mental strategies used in athletics work well for test-taking too; he consistently shares these strategies with his students.
About the Name
Established by Georg Cantor in the 1870s, set theory is considered to be the basis of mathematics. A set is defined to be a list of objects such as numbers, functions, or more abstract mathematical items. Cantor (and others) demonstrated that sets can be used to build mathematics from the ground up, so why not name ourselves after something so fundamental to the subject we teach? {SET} is also an acronym for our full name, “Skolnik Enrichment Tutoring.”
